What is the purpose of having a monitored Security System?

With Young's Security Systems, Inc., your home or business is protected, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Imagine the peace of mind you will have knowing that when you are at home or away, your property is protected. With a residential alarm system, you, your family members and your cherished possessions are shielded from fire, burglary, carbon monoxide, sump pump failures, low and high temperature, humidity, water leaks, gas leaks and power outages.

What is a monitored alarm system?

A monitored alarm system uses sensors and control electronics at your home or business to automatically communicate alarm events to a central monitoring facility (Central Station). The Young’s 24 hour, UL-listed Central Station automatically receives coded information from your system through phone, cellular, internet or radio connections, which is recorded in our computer systems and analyzed by trained operators who call police, fire, and medical authorities to respond to the situation.

Is an alarm system expensive?

The cost of an alarm system depends upon your individual needs. Our sales representatives are trained to work with you in identifying the most cost-effective system to meet your needs.

Can I get a break on my insurance if I get an alarm system?

Most insurance companies give significant discounts to alarm owners who are monitored by a UL listed Monitoring Station.

What other devices can be monitored by my alarm?

  • medical alert for the elderly
  • carbon monoxide detectors
  • smoke detectors
  • panic buttons
  • low temperature sensors
  • high temperature sensors
  • deep freeze monitors
  • window screens
  • wireless key remotes
  • water detectors
  • glass break detectors
  • high and low humidity
  • phone service
  • sump pump
  • power outage

What is the advantage of having monitored smoke detectors?

Having a monitored smoke detector at your premises ensures that the fire department will be contacted if you have a fire emergency. A good photoelectric smoke detector will detect smoke particles caused by even a slow smoldering fire.  The smoke detector is powered continually and the Young’s security system supervises its condition. With this service, you can rest easy, knowing that your smoke detector is continuously monitored through a 24 hour zone, even when your alarm system is not armed.

What happens if my phone lines are cut?

A basic alarm system will not be able to communicate with the Central Station, but it will sound the siren on the premises.  Young's offers GSM cellular communication which will communicate with our central station when your wired phone lines have failed.

What happens in the case of power failure?

The system has a back-up battery housed in the control panel for this emergency. It will recharge itself once the power returns.

What if I have pets?

Our latest design in motion sensors allows for pet movement while still providing protection. A pet immune motion sensor is specifically designed so that a pet under a certain weight will not cause an alarm. This is achieved through state of the art, dual sensor technology, located in the motion device.

What if I accidentally trip the alarm?

Simply enter your security code and press OFF.   Then, call the monitoring station at (217) 522-9000 to advise us that you accidentally tripped your alarm.  You will need to tell the monitoring station your name and password

Since all of our systems are programmed to send us alarm cancellation signals as well as the alarm, our procedure is to notify emergency services soon after we receive the alarm, then start on the call list.

If an alarm is false, disarm the system immediately.  This will quickly convey the cancellation signal to us.

What happens when the alarm goes off?

A trained dispatcher will quickly notify the authorities. The monitoring station will then proceed through the call list for the premises and try to reach a responsible party. The police, once they have arrived will do a perimeter check of your premises, and look for any visible signs of forced entry. If none is found, they will leave. The alarm will reset itself after 8 minutes and the siren will stop sounding. If a break-in has occurred, the police or guards will enter and check the premises and notify the Central Station.

What is a Central Monitoring Station?

Young's U.L. Listed Central Station is a sophisticated communication center, self-contained with emergency backup equipment that ensures around the clock operation. We respond to the needs of our alarm subscribers 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. In the event of an alarm, your alarm control sends a signal from your premises directly to our central station. Our specially trained staff receive the information interpret it, and appropriate action is taken to ensure that you and your property remain protected.

What Does U.L. Listed Mean?

U.L. stands for Underwriters Laboratories, an independent testing organization that sets the quality and use standards for electronic and consumer products. A U.L. Listed Central Station must meet strict guidelines, as well as rigorous annual inspections. In addition, alarms monitored by a U.L. Listed Central Station may qualify for a 5% to 20% discount on most insurance policies.

Is the Young's Security Central Station U.L.-listed?

Yes, our Central Station has been U.L.-listed since 1995. Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) is the leader in the certification and listing of Central Stations. In order to receive U.L. listing, Central Stations must meet demanding requirements for architectural and physical security features as well as emergency power, computer hardware & software and operator training.
